Summary...
As full-time owner of the Crewel World needlework shop and part-time sleuth, Betsy Devonshire has unraveled more than a few lies. But even on vacation, Betsy gets tangled up in a mystery that reveals Minnesota's dark past...
Times are tough lately, financially and personally, in Betsy's life. Her shop, like everyone else's, has been struggling in this economy, and she's been feeling bad about not connecting with the daughter of her new boyfriend, Connor. So when the Larson family, who bought one of Betsy's cabins, invites her to come and help with renovations, she agrees to go. But their work comes to a sudden halt when, beneath the hideous linoleum, they discover something ever uglier---a human skeleton. More chillingly, evidence suggests the dead man might have been a World War ll German soldiet.
Whatever would a German soldier be doing in the northwoods of Minnesota? Betsy comes to find that there was a German POW camp nearby during World War ll. Betsy won't give up, because when there's a murder, however long ago, there's no expiration date on justice...
My Thoughts...
This was the first book I've read by this author and also the first book of this series, not realizing it was a series book when I bought it. However, it was a good stand alone book, even if it is a book in the series. It was a quick and easy book to read.
I must say I found the story quite predictable...I guessed who was the murderer and who the dead body in the root cellar was early on in the story. It was fun guessing and to find out I had guessed it correctly. I thought it did have a bit of a weird ending... Oh! Well! It was just a cozy mystery, nothing more and nothing less.
My favorite quotes in the book...
"Betsy said, "There's an Amish saying, 'We grow too soon old and too late smart."
"A clever woman lets a man chase her until she catches him."
I enjoyed this book and awarded it 3***
